The earliest known Duxbury family was established in the parish of Standish,
Lancashire, England in the early twelfth century with the first mention of Ulf
de Duxbury and his descendants who were then living in a place called Duxbury.
Early information is sparse and incomplete making it almost impossible to document
a comprehensive family history of Ralph's ancestors with direct ties to the earliest
Duxburys. Apparently, the most research has been completed on the Darwen Duxbury
line. It should, however, be noted that Donald and Ruth Duxbury of Madison, WI
have extensively researched the Colne Duxbury line and this publication is based,
for the most part, on their research.
This family history begins with Ralph Duxbury (ca. 1696). Ralph is believed to
have lived pre 1728 in Broughton,, West Riding, Yorkshire, England; Earby, West
Riding, Yorkshire, England, post 1728 in Blacko and Waterside, Colne, Lancashire,
England. Our main focus in this genealogy is the direct ancestral line of Ralph,
his son Robert (1731), Robert's son John (1759) and John's son Luke (1803) in
England and the migration of Luke's widow Jane (Pickles) and her four children
including Joseph circa 1855, who settled in Lonsdale, Providence County, Rhode
Island and Joseph's direct American descendants.
He was married to Mary Chadwick
on 2 May 1726 in St. Mary Parish Church, Thornton-in-Craven, West Riding, Yorkshire,
England.(8) Ralph
Duxbury and Mary Chadwick had the following children:
